Gaining 1000 Fans In 50 Days: UPDATE

Standard

Howdy folks! I’ve been working on connecting with more people via SoundCloud! Check out my last post to see the challenge I set out to complete which will hopefully help me gain 1000 new fans in 50 days, and 17,300 in a year. It can work for you too.

So far I’ve sent out about 70 genuine messages and listened to tons of tracks from great artists on SoundCloud. My goal is to connect with these artists and give them feedback on their music.

So far, the response has been quite good, I’ve increased my followers on SoundCloud by about 30.

I’ve been getting a lot of plays and comments on my SoundCloud page as well, which is really awesome!

Keep checking back to find out more about how this venture is going!

Gaining 1000 New Fans In 50 Days

Standard

Howdy all you crazy diamonds! Hope everyone’s doing great. Besides listening to excessive amounts of Pink Floyd, recently I’ve been working on this cool project that will help me grow my fan base as a musician, and it can help you too!

Over the next several blog posts, I’ll be sharing my progress and giving you all helpful tips, so be sure to subscribe to my blog and check back frequently!

I encourage you to join in on this challenge with me, and let me know how you’re doing and if you need any tips.

Here’s the basic run down of what my goals are:

-1000 SoundCloud Followers
(currently 161)

-1000 Twitter Followers
(currently 503)

-At least 500 plays on each of my SoundCloud tracks

I plan to have this all hopefully completed by July 1st 2012.

What I plan to do to achieve this goal:

-Connect with 20 new SoundCloud users each day, listen to one or two of their tracks, post a genuine comment and send them a private message introducing myself.

The key here is that these must be genuine messages and comments, no spamming.

-Follow 10 new twitter users who I believe would be interested in my music each day, and message each one who follows back, introducing myself.

I encourage you to join in on this challenge with me, even if it takes you longer or shorter than July 1st. It’ll be a fun experience as we grow our fan bases and strive to achieve success. Happy dream chasing!

Train Station

Leicester Square Tube station, London – Painting By Stephen Wiltshire

I guess by my previous posts, you can tell that I really connect with the artwork of Stephen Wiltshire. Check out this drawing he did of the Leicester Square Tube Train Station in London. I love how he highlighted the train with a vibrant colour like red, because it really draws your attention to the train.

This is cool in my opinion, because it draws your attention to the fastest, most important object in the whole scene. Without the existence of the train, this scene would not exist.

My Interview With Stephen Wiltshire

Standard

20120220-192523.jpg

I previously blogged about my favorite visual artist ever, Stephen Wiltshire. I had some questions I was really really wondering about, and his sister and representative, Annette Wiltshire, was kind enough to answer them for me:

BT: When and how did Stephen discover his amazing memory?

AW: Stephen started drawing from the age of three, his work was documented at the age of five , the same time that he was diagnosed. His drawings came to light at his special needs school “Queensmill School” in Fulham London. As a family we were aware of his drawing skills, however that was not priority, we desparately needed some advise and help as to what are next step would be and how to to help assist Stephen with his Autism.

BT: Stephen is an inspiration for others with autism. Does Stephen believe that his remarkable ability comes as a result of his autism, or does he view the two as simply unrelated?

AW: I personally believe that they are not related, although I am sure their would be others who would think differently and that is fine. Stephen has no understanding of Autism and if you were to ask him he would not know what you are asking of him. Growing up together as a family, we hardly ever thought about the word Autism or even tried to make sense of it or try to make Stephen understand what the title meant as this in my opinion is exactly what it is a title, a label. Our focus was for him to be accepted in society and have independance and to support him with the every day chores and challenges one has to go through in life, that we take for granted.
Stephen understands that he is special and that his drawings give immense happiness to all ages and walks of life. He is extremely proud of his acheivements and has come a long way and faced many hurdles and with great success has accomplished himself.

BT: How did Stephen deal with the worldwide recognition and fame? Did it affect his art in any way?

AW: The bigger the crowd the better the response, Stephen has astounding confidence, not an ounce of fear, completly fearless and is a complete natural in front of the camera, you sense the happiness in his eyes before he even begins to grin. He loves the fact that he is famous and I have to say, that it has only built his stature even more so. His artwork can never be affected, this is an individual who had no language until the age of five and used drawings to communicate with us and others and to this present day, still feels he needs to perfect his work and try harder, his determination and self pressure he puts on himself is unbeileveable and is a real inspiration to me.

BT: As an artist, does Stephen draw art that he keeps strictly to himself, or does everything find it’s way out there for fans to see?

AW: Yes, he does have a private collection, just like we need food and water to get by, Stephen needs pen and paper to keep him going, he draws almost every single day and I can’t tell you how many pens he has got through. We do separate both his works as I feel this is private and if he wanted his fans to see it he would happily hand it to me and say “here you are sis, you can sell that one, if you want to” which he has done in the past, however it is rare.

I Heard It Through The Grapevine

Marvin Gaye’s “Heard It Through The Grapevine” is one of my favorite tunes. I’ve always dreamed of recording a cover, but just got around to it this weekend. Check it out, lemme know what you think in the comments below!

Big City Scenery

Standard

If you read some of my previous posts, you’ll probably realize that I’m really in love with large cities and scenery of tall buildings.

That’s why this video and song blew my mind.

Glass Intact by Prantare

The first time I heard the song, I hadn’t seen the music video. Even then, I was impressed by the skill that was put into the composition. The chord progression strikes a chord (bad pun) with me and the song flows quite nicely.

And then I saw the video.

I’m ABSOUTELY in love with city scenery, so this video was pretty mindblowing for me. I’d definitely check out some more of Prantare’s tunes on his YouTube channel:

Hope you all enjoy this as much as I did!

Musician Spotlight #1: Devon Borden

Standard

Check out this trippy song I found while surfing around on the Ultimate Guitar Forum.

The Meeting of Worlds By Devon Borden

The song is called The Meeting of Worlds and it’s by an amazing Canadian artist named Devon Borden, who goes by the name Terethien. His music is ambient/psychedelic. The song The Meeting of Worlds reminds me of “On The Run” by Pink Floyd on their legendary album The Dark Side of The Moon. Devon’s song is layered with synthesizers and cool effects, which give it a cool, sort of video-game type sound.

I had a few questions for Mr. Borden:

BT: How long have you been making music, and what got you interested in music?

Devon: I likely started actually ‘making’ music about 14 years ago when I got my first guitar, but I can remember times even before that when I was writing songs just by coming up with lyrics. Even when I had my guitar I didn’t really get too interested in music until I heard Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd when I was 8 or 9, and I immediately got inspired by their creativity and the ease with which they created these beautiful ethereal soundscapes. After that I started a few bands that never really got anywhere and decided it would be best to try make music on my own. After I got my synth about a year and a half ago, I’ve been hard at work writing and recording as much as I can.

BT: Do you feel that people can get a sense of your identity and learn a bit about you through your music?

Devon: I think I always manage to fit different aspects about me into my music, but I always have to do it in a different way than the majority of songwriters. None of the songs that I write have any lyrics, so I focus more on showing my creativity and ability to work within several different genres over the course of a song, while at the same time focusing on creating an atmosphere that describes some aspect about me, my personality, how I’m feeling, etc. All of my music is meant to create different moods in as many different ways as I can fit into a single song.
BT. Were there any messages/themes that you were thinking of when you put together The Meeting of Worlds?
Devon: ‘The Meeting of Worlds’ was my first serious attempt at working within the Psychedelic Ambient genre with the new tools at my disposal. Music like this gives me a medium to express my interest in the more psychedelic and ‘out there’ aspects of the world around us, such as Lucid Dreaming, etc. I tried to focus the songs direction in the most ‘spacey’ and relaxed way I could to fit with the psychedelic themes of both the genre and the voice samples littered throughout the song itself. With that in mind, I still built the song around a strong melody and rhythm that people (hopefully) can get into with ease.

A big thank you to Devon for allowing me to share his music with you all! I definitely recommend checking out some more of his music here:
